Gunman Fires Multiple Rounds at Juvenile in Newark

An incident where a gunman fired shots at a  juvenile in Newark's South Ward appeared to began an evening of shooting violence in sections of the city. 

At approximately 9:38 p.m, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out near 240 Elizabeth Avenue. 

When officers arrived, they found shell casings and a teenaged boy suffering a non-fatal bullet wound in his leg at that location. 

The victim, around 16-years-old, was rushed to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. 

The event appeared to set up the overnight where police responded to about three other shots fired incidents in different sections of Newark. The shootings have not been confirmed connected at this time. 

Police have not reported a motive for the attack. The suspect is at large. 

The incident is under investigation.
