Police have two suspects in custody after an armed carjacking in Newark’s South Ward this evening.
Officers were alerted of a carjacking near 242 Elizabeth Avenue around 6:30 p.m.
Police say the suspects pointed a weapon and took the victim’s white Jeep Cherokee then sped from the scene.
Newark officers canvassing the scene came across the vehicle on Route 1&9 and followed the suspect to McCarter Highway and East Kinney, where two males bailed from the car and led cops on a foot pursuit.
Police were able to apprehend both suspects and locate a weapon at the scene.
There were no physical injuries reported.
Newark has had about four armed carjackings today.
