Firefighters are on the scene of a fire inside a school in Newark’s Central Ward at this time.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 10:40 a.m., firefighters raced to the Newark Vocational School, located at 48 Livingston Street, to investigate reports of a building fire.
Upon arrival, crews found the building evacuated with smoke and fire contained to two rooms at the school where the sprinkler system activated.
Officials reported no injuries to any staff or students.
Firefighters placed the fire under control around 11 a.m.
Officials are attempting to determine if the blaze is causing major power outages affecting other Central Ward schools, including Arts High School and businesses.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
