Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said on Saturday, shortly after 4:00 a.m., a patrol unit of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City after hearing gunshots.
According to Suarez the responding Police Officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the torso.
The male, later identified as Mr. Ishamell McCany, 41, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center.
Prosecutor Suarez said McCany was pronounced dead at approximately 4:20 a.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
No arrests have been made at this time.
