Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces an upcoming assessment of the Bergen County Police Academy in preparation for national accreditation.
According to Prosecutor Musella, a team of assessors for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will conduct a virtual on-site assessment on December 6th and 7th, 2021, to examine all aspects of the Bergen County Police Academy policy and procedures, management, operations, and instructional services.
Prosecutor Musella said verification by the team that the police academy meets the Commission’s 160 state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process.
“Gaining CALEA accreditation is a highly prized recognition of public safety training academy excellence,” stated Prosecutor Musella.
As part of the assessment, academy personnel, trainees, and public members are invited to offer comments by telephone during a public call-in session.
Interested persons may call 201-226-5786 on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

A copy of the standards is available for review at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute located at 281 Campgaw Road, Mahwah, New Jersey 07430.
The local contact is Detective Salvatore LoCascio at (201) 226-5745.
