Passaic County authorities said the arrest of Corey Ervin, 44, from Clifton.
Officials said Mr. Ervin was arrested on October 18, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Police say Mr. Ervin is charged with one count of first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of second degree Sexual Assault, one count of third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and one count of second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to officials, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received information from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency regarding an 18-year-old victim who disclosed being sexually assaulted by Mr. Ervin since the age of 12.
Police said the victim disclosed being assaulted by Mr. Ervin at a residence in Paterson and in a motor vehicle.
During the investigation, Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses resulting in Mr. Ervin’s arrest.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Mr. Ervin be detained in the Passaic County Jail pending the resolution of the case.
The detention motion will be scheduled before a Superior Court Judge on a date and time to be determined by the Court.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
