Dunellen Man Charged in Linden Hit-and-Run

A 41-year-old Dunellen man was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash that left a Rahway man injured, authorities said. On January 31, a-24-year-old Rahway man was riding a bicycle on W. St. Georges Ave. by Stuart Place shortly after 8 a.m., when he was struck by a 1998 Honda Accord which fled the scene. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by Rahway Police and the driver, Francisco R. Herrera, of Dunellen, was placed under arrest. He was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. The victim sustained a minor head injury and was taken to an area hospital. After an investigation by the department’s Traffic Bureau and a review by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Herrera was charged with assault by auto, a third degree crime. He was issued a summons today for the criminal offense and released pending a court appearance on February 25th.
