The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is looking into the motive behind a shooting that killed a woman in East Orange Tuesday evening.
In a preliminary investigation, East Orange Police notified county officials after they found the unidentified woman suffering bullet wounds in the vicinity of North 16th Street and Williams streets before 8:30 p.m.
The woman was pronounced dead a short time later.
An already “stretched thin” Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigating two other fatalities in Newark -around the same time- arrived and began collecting evidence while East Orange Police secured the scene.
Several individuals acquainted with the victim told RLS Media that the woman has young children and is a part of a close-knit family.
"We want justice and answers for the killing of this woman," acquaintances said.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
No arrests have been reported.
