Police in Hillside are searching for a man wanted for driving away in a vehicle left running at a gas station Hillside Thursday.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., police were notified of a car theft in the 1300 block of Chestnut Avenue.
Officers arrived and learned that two occupants of a 20212 Mercedes Benz left the car with the keys inside then entered the gas station's store.
Hillside Police said a male suspect entered the car and sped away from the scene.
Officials said several social media claims of a carjacking at that location were unfounded and not true.
Residents are reminded never to leave keys in an unoccupied vehicle.
The incident is under investigation.
