According to the Lakewood Police Department, earlier this morning, a 911 caller reported that they heard approximately 6-7 gunshots or fireworks. They believed the sound was coming from the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Cross Street.
Police said that as units arrived on the scene, Toms River Police called to report they had a gunshot victim in their town who stated that she was shot on Massachusetts Avenue.
According to police officials, the victim was struck by at least one round in her lower back; however, it was not life-threatening.
At this time, the investigation is still active with the assistance of the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutors.
