New Jersey State Police officials are looking into the cause for a wreck that killed a woman on an interstate in Essex County Saturday.
According to NJ State Police, the crash occurred Saturday at 4:18 p.m. In the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Newark.
State Police officials said preliminary information indicated that in the area of milepost 56.5, a Nissan Rogue ran off the left side of the local lanes roadway and struck the center median concrete barrier.
According to officials, the driver, Ms. Shaquonah Parker, 36, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark.
The rear seat passenger sustained severe injuries and was also transported to University Hospital.
The express lanes of Interstate 78 eastbound were closed for approximately 3 hours.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
