Bloomfield Community Farmers Market Kicks Off This Tuesday

Bloomfield

The Township of Bloomfield is set to launch its Community Farmers Market on Tuesday, September 21 in the Bloomfield Public Library Courtyard.

The market will run every Tuesday, 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., through November 9 and feature City Green's mobile veggie truck along with a variety of other vendors.

“This farmers market will be an exciting opportunity to buy locally produced food from small businesses in our community,” said Mayor Venezia.

“I would like to thank the Bloomfield Community Farmers Market Committee for their hard work to make this a reality.”

As a way to be accessible to all, the farmers market will be providing “market cash” to qualifying families and individuals. Anyone who qualifies should bring their proof at the information table to receive their market cash.

Criteria for Market Cash:

Anyone who can provide proof of eligibility by showing:

1. A SNAP card, WIC card, Medicaid card, unemployment stub, or proof of disability (defined by an SSI/SSD award letter or temporary disability letter).

2. Residents residing in Felicity Towers, Heritage, Kinder Towers, or Section 8 recipients are in low income/moderate income housing and will be eligible.

3. Residents staying in a shelter, rooming house, or boarding home will be eligible if their last permanent address was Bloomfield.

4. Residents who cannot show  this proof or do not meet the above criteria, can visit the Human Services Table for a screening at the market and receive market cash. If they meet the criteria, they will be issued a letter from Human Services for future markets.

As part of the market, the Bloomfield Community Farmers Market Committee welcomes applications from Bloomfield small businesses to be featured one time at each market at community spotlight tables.

“The launch of our farmers market this year is just the beginning. We plan to have a full market schedule in 2022, as we continue to grow this community project,” said Councilwoman Jenny Mundell.

“None of this could be possible without the work of the Bloomfield Community Farmers Market Committee as well as the Neighbor to Neighbor Network for the vouchers that they are providing which will grant equitable access to all residents.”

The members of the Bloomfield Farmers Market Committee that made this possible are John Evangelista, Nicolle Walker, Brian Greco, Maliek Marks-Small, Lauren Havens, Diana Aviles and Councilwoman Jenny Mundell.
