Two people are alive today after a tractor trailer toppled onto their vehicle trapping them this afternoon in Secaucus, authorities said.
Police were called to Route 3 eastbound sometime around 12:30 p.m. for a report of a crash with entrapments.
Upon arrival, firefighters worked to extricate the two occupants of the van, who were said to have been alert and conscience.
Initial investigation revealed that the tractor trailer - carrying a steel "structure," possibly a crane - struck the overpass of Paterson Plank Road and landing on the vehicle, trapping two people inside.
Route 3 westbound was closed for an unconfirmed amount of time.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
