The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of a shooting that wounded a child in Newark Sunday night.
Police said gunfire erupted at an address in the 100 block Schuyler Avenue prompting a police investigation just before 10:30 p.m.
Units arrived and found a child suffering a bullet wound in their head at that location.
Police said the victim, around the age of 8-years-old, was identified by EMS at the scene and listed in ‘grave’ condition.
According to preliminary reports, police are looking into the possibility of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is early, active and ongoing.
At this time, there are no other injuries reported.
UPDATE 11:15 p.m. This is a confirmed deadly shooting.
