Officials in Orange are reporting that one of their police officers was injured in a shooting on Tuesday evening.
According to preliminary information, sometime before 8:45 p.m., several police units were called for an officer assist after a suspect led him on a foot pursuit in the area of Elm and Hillyer streets.
During the interaction, gunfire erupted and an officer was struck in the leg and injured.
Police apprehended the suspect and found a gun nearby.
The unidentified officer was rushed to the hospital by other Orange Police officers and the extent of his condition has not been confirmed at this time.
It is not clear why the officer was engaged in the pursuit or if the unidentified cop returned gunfire using his service weapon.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office were on the scene leading the investigation.
