Newark City officials reported that members of the Newark Fire Division evacuated 23 people following a foundation collapse at a Taylor Street residence due to yesterday’s thunderstorms.
According to officials, after 2 a.m. today, firefighters observed a partial foundation collapse on the basement side of 36 Taylor Street, a two 1/2-story wood frame residence.
No injuries were reported, but residents were evacuated and neighbors from an adjacent home at 38 Taylor Street as a precaution in advance of the upcoming storm expected to begin this afternoon.
Officials say a total of 16 adults and seven children were evacuated from both residences.
The Newark Department of Engineering, Code Enforcement and PSEG have been notified.

The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire and Office of Emergency Management Personnel. Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse and building materials.
