Several suspects jumped out of a stolen car that crashed in a section of Newark‘s South Ward Tuesday morning.
Emergency responders were called to the 80’s block of Dayton Street after learning of a vehicle on fire around 6:31 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an unoccupied white BMW engulfed in flames with three other cars damaged at that location.
Newark Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the fire before searching the other damaged vehicles for injured occupants.
According to residents in the neighborhood across the street from Weequahic Park, three stolen vehicles were racing in the area throughout the morning when the BMW lost control and slammed into a red truck parked in front of 86 Dayton.
Residents said the crash's impact caused the vehicle to hit a Honda truck parked in front of 76 Dayton Street.
The damaged Honda truck rear-ended the white van.
According to residents, it is common for stolen vehicles to drive recklessly on Dayton Street.
The community has tried numerous times to get the city to install speed bumps, but nothing has been done, residents said.
The suspects remain at large.
