Two armed men fired several shots as they carjacked a Lexus early Saturday morning in Jersey City, according to police.
Police said, a 33-year-old Jersey City and his 31-year-old passenger were sitting inside a 2007 Lexus Es300 on New Heckman Drive sometime around 4:30 a.m., when they noticed two men - one wearing a ski mask - approach the vehicle.
The men - one of which was armed with a handgun - then walked in front of the Lexus, and fired several shots toward the car, according to police reports.
The two victims got out of the vehicle and fled. Minutes later, both victims returned to find that the Lexus had been taken, police said.
The carjackers are said to be in their late 20s. One of the carjackers was approximately 5-foot 8, stocky build, and was last seen wearing a black jacket, jeans and black boots. The second carjacker was described as approximately 5-foot 7, stocky build and last seen wearing a black ski mask, a black and red fleece with a North Face and blue jeans.
The Lexus owner told police that because of the cold weather conditions he paid little mind to why the one suspect had a ski mask.
Police found five shell casings during the investigation.
Carjacking remains under investigation.
