Five teenagers - between 14 to 17 years of age - led police Friday on two separate stolen-car chases, according to police.
Police responded the area of Prospect Avenue in the Avenel shortly after 12:30 p.m. for a report of stolen Buick LeSabre.
Upon arrival, police found the stolen vehicle parked on Prospect Avenue near a Jeep Cherokee and a Saturn, later determined to have been stolen out of East Orange.
As officers approached, the vehicles they sped away. Police said Jeep slammed into a snow bank and suspects took off on foot.
The second vehicle - a Saturn - reportedly crashed into a vehicle a short time near the Union Toll Plaza and suspects also fled on foot.
All five suspects were apprehended, police said.
The identities of all the teens are being withheld but were told that among the five was a female and four males from Newark, Irvington, and Orange.
Police recovered a 9 mm semiautomatic and a 22-caliber revolver, police said.
All of the teens were charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited weapons and devices, eluding, conspiracy and possession of marijuana.
The teens are being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
No injuries were reported.
