NJ TRANSIT Bus Operator Helps School Children Stuck on George Washington Bridge

New Jersey

NJ TRANSIT officials applauded a  bus operator for his actions to help nearly two dozen school children safely when the school bus they were occupying experienced a tire blowout on the George Washington Bridge.

Officials said just before 5 p.m. yesterday (Monday), Port Authority police said the tire blowout caused the school bus to become disabled.

According to officials, while waiting for a tow truck to arrive, the NJ TRANSIT bus approached the scene.

Bus operator Mr. James Desir stopped his NJ Transit bus and assisted police in getting 21 children onto his bus.

NJ Transit officials said Desir then safely drove all of the children and their chaperones to the George Washington Bridge bus station.

“NJ Transit applauds the quick-thinking actions of bus operator James Desir for going above and beyond the call of duty to assist in the communities that NJ Transit serves,” officials said.
