In Essex and Union counties, law enforcement officials are looking into circumstances surrounding a shooting incident that injured a person during the overnight hours.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 1:45 a.m., officials at University Hospital in Newark contracted police when a male victim suffering a gunshot wound entered the emergency department.
Newark Police officers arrived at the medical center and were informed by the victim that shooters fired shots in his direction at a location in Elizabeth.
Police in Elizabeth checked the area of 3rd and Pine streets, then the 200 block of Bond Street for crime scenes.
The victim's injuries were not reported as life threatening and the motive for the shooting has not been determined.
