Police in Newark arrested two suspects in early morning domestic violence assaults in the city's South Ward.
In the first incident, police responded to an address in the 30's block of Van Vechten Street around 4:50 a.m. after learning of a stabbing at that location.
Upon arrival, police found a man suffering a stab wound in his arm after an argument escalated into a physical attack.
According to police, the woman reported produced a sharp object and stabbed the man in his arm, causing non-fatal injuries. EMS treated him while police took the woman into custody.
In the other incident, at approximately 5 a.m., police rushed to 515 Elizabeth Avenue after they received reports of a domestic strangulation inside the building.
When officers arrived, they found the building's security officers detained a man after he went on the attack and beat then choked his girlfriend.
Police say the suspect was arrested and a crime scene unit was notified to assist in the investigation.
Authorities are investigating and trying to confirm the motives in both attacks, but police believe alcohol played a role in both situations.
