The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will lead the investigation into a shooting that injured a person in downtown Paterson this afternoon.
Officials said the broad daylight shooting happed around noon near 83 Broadway.
According to police, a male gunman repeatedly fired at another man sending pedestrians and shoppers scrambling for cover.
Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound in his leg at that location.
He was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment while police taped off the area and marked shell casings with cones.
It is not immediately clear if the victim was targeted or a bystander in the area.
The incident is under an active and ongoing investigation.
