Separate Jersey City Shootings Injure Three Victims

Jersey City

Authorities in Jersey City are looking into the motives behind two shooting incidents that left three people injured at locations in the city since Saturday evening.

In the overnight incident, at approximately 3:55 a.m.,  officials at Jersey City Medical Center contacted police when two victims entered the emergency room suffering non-fatal bullet wounds.

Police arrived at the hospital to investigate the incident and were pointed in the direction of a store near the intersection of Cole Street and Newark Avenue.

Officials said officers found shell casings inside the establishment and believe the two individuals shot each other but have launched an active and ongoing investigation.

Hospital officials reported stable conditions for both of the gunshot victims.

In an earlier shooting incident, police responded to reports of shots fired near Martin Luther King Drive and Virginia Avenue shortly before 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived at the scene they found a severely injured person suffering multiple gunshot wounds after an ambushing attack by a gunman at that location.

Police say the victim was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment and was listed in severe conditions.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of both shootings.

There have been nine individuals shot in three incidents, with two fatalities in Jersey City in the last 24-hours.
