Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating a pedestrian strike that killed a woman in the city Monday night. According to Elizabeth City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins, it happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. where police responded to reports of a person down in the 1000 block of Route 1&9 (Spring Street).
According to Spokeswoman Martins, emergency responders arrived and found a white female suffering severe injuries after a vehicle struck her at that location.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martins said the woman did not have identification and authorities are trying to identify her next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
