EMS rushed a female victim to the hospital after they found her struck by bullets when shooters fired a hail of gunfire in a section of Newark this evening.
Police are piecing together details regarding the incident, but according to a preliminary investigation, heavy rounds of rapid gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 60 Hillside Avenue around 5:37 p.m., sending police to the scene to investigate.
When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering graze wounds and over a dozen rounds of shell casings on the ground.
As police searched the area, they came across a female victim suffering bullet wounds in her back near 399 Irvine Turner Boulevard.
Police said she was rushed to the hospital and is in serious condition.
Detectives have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
There are no arrests reported at that time.
