Several pets died in an early morning fire that ripped through a house in Fanwood on Wednesday.
Officials say at approximately midnight, crews were notified of a fire at 244 North Martine.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames and thick smoke coming from a two-and-a-half-story wood-framed house on the corner of North Martine and Portland.
Mutual aid from neighboring towns was called in for coverage at the scene and citywide response as flames appeared to extend to neighboring homes.
Crews stretched several lines where they immediately poured water on the fire and successfully gaining control shortly in under an hour.
A search of the house indicated no trapped or injured occupants and the fire's cause is under investigation.
