Police in Newark and NJ Child Protection Permanency Agency are looking into a reported Explicit Contact with a Minor incident reported in a section of the city's North Ward Saturday night.
In the preliminary investigation, police were called to an address on Mount Prospect Avenue after receiving reports of a child endangerment incident around 9 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene and met with a female child -around 12 years old- and her guardian. They told police that at approximately 6 p.m., the girl was attacked then forcefully sexually assaulted by her teenage cousin at a different location, according to family members.
According to reports, the girl was transported to the hospital for an evaluation but did not appear to suffer severe physical injuries.
Police say contact was made with the suspect and his parents, but police have not officially reported an arrest at this time.
The incident remains under investigation.
