Man Arrested for Attempting to Set News Stand on Fire During Robbery in Bloomfield

Officials said on Monday at approximately 7:58pm, Bloomfield Police Patrol units responded to 137 La France Avenue (DJH News Stand) on a report of a robbery that had just occurred.

Upon police arrival, the victim stated that an older African American male (late 40's early 50's), wearing a blue jacket and having a gray beard and glasses, went into the store and requested that she play lottery numbers for him. 

 

According to police, while she was doing so, the suspect (identified at this time as "Elvis Holder')' began pouring an unknown substance out of a Nestle water bottle onto the countertop.

When the victim asked the suspect what he was doing, the suspect stated, "Give me everything in the register" as he pulled out a lighter and threatened to light the unknown substance on fire. 

At this time, the victim removed all of the money out of the "NJ Lottery'' register and handed it over to the suspect. The proceeds of the robbery were estimated to be approximately $968.

Bloomfield Detective Bureau/Crime Scene Units recovered video surveillance from the store, which captured a good facial image of the suspect. Detectives investigated this incident and were able to obtain a positive identification of the suspect who was identified as being Elvis Holder of East Orange, NJ.

 

Police said today Bloomfield Detectives, along with patrol units were able to locate Mr. Holder in a rear yard of an East Orange residence.

Mr. Holder was arrested and transported to Bloomfield Police HQ. 

 

Police say he was processed and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility awaiting to appear before a Judge.
