The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that killed a person in a section of Paterson on Thursday night.
Gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 21st Avenue and East 21st Street around 7:30 p.m. sending police officers to the scene to investigate.
Units arrived and found the unidentified victim suffering a bullet wound in their chest.
Police say the victim was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment but died a short time later.
Detectives believe that suspects pulled up in a vehicle then fired multiple shots in the victim's direction.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
