A North Brunswick woman was charged today with the death of an Edison man who was struck and killed last September.
The victim, identified as Daniel Catalfamo, 29, was struck on Sept. 17 around 8:17 p.m. while attempting to cross Route 18 South near the Highland Street Extension. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Driver, later identified as Louise T. Swale, 64, fled the scene, police said.
According to police, Swale was tracked down after an Edison body shop was hired to repair the damaged vehicle.
The body shop workers were unaware of the fatal accident, according to police.
Enough evidence was obtained to arrest and charge Swale, police said.
Swale has been charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, tampering with physical evidence and hindering apprehension, police announced Friday.
She was taken to the Middlesex County jail on $75,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Patrolman Glenn Tabasko of the East Brunswick Police Department Special Operations Section at (732) 390-6969.
