UPDATE 6:50 a.m. : This is now 2-alarm fire that crews are fighting. Our field team are seeing firefighters battling extremely harsh and cold conditions as they attempt to get this under control. The fire began in the kitchen of one of the apartments. No injuries at this time.
Newark Firefighters are on the scene of a fire that broke out inside a house in the city's South Ward this morning.
According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the vicinity of 382 Leslie Street to investigate reports of a fire around 6:05 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames tearing through the first and second floors of a two and a half story house at that location.
Crews were able to make entry into the home, where a search indicated no victims at this time.
Firefighters stretched at least two lines and now have water on the blaze, but as of 6:17 a.m., the fire has not been declared under control.
