Passaic County Officials and Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick J. Callahan announced that Mr. Esau Torres-Guzman, 19, of Paterson, was arrested in relation to a shooting incident that took place on December 25, 2020, in the area of Market Street and Carroll Street.
Offcicla said Esau Torres-Guzman is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree.
According to a statement released by the agencies, on December 25, 2020, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of Market and Carroll streets on a report of shots fired
. A short time later, police detectives were advised that a 19-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived via private vehicle at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson seeking treatment for non-fatal gunshot wounds.
According to the invetsatIon, Torres-Guzman was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police said on Wednesday, at approximately 8:40 a.m., members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit arrested Esau Torres-Guzman at his residence in Paterson, New Jersey.
Police Detectives recovered a .380 caliber Taurus handgun, 13 bags of cocaine, and a small bag of marijuana from Torres-Guzman’s residence following his arrest. As a result, he is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree, Possession of a Firearm While Committing a Narcotics Violation, Second Degree, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (“CDS”), Third Degree; Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS, Third Degree, and Possession of Marijuana, a Disorderly Persons Offense.
The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
