Somerset County officials have announced the arrests of Sherwin S. Newland, 21, Jamal Honorat, 18, and a third unidentified person.
Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson stated that on Wednesday, January 27, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force (OCNTF) along with members of the North Plainfield Police Department conducted a narcotics investigation into the distribution of narcotics in North Plainfield.
Task Force Officers received information that narcotics were being distributed from a residence on Somerset Street, North Plainfield.
As a result of the investigation, Task Force Members applied for and were granted a Superior Court search warrant for the residence located on Somerset Street, North Plainfield.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that upon execution of the search warrant Sherwin S. Newland and Jamal Honorat, were located inside the residence on Somerset Street in North Plainfield and were subsequently arrested.
According to county officials, as a result of searching the residence, the following items were seized as evidence:
- Approximately 192 grams of Marijuana
- Approximately 4.6 pounds of Hashish
- Approximately 103 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms
- 45 Xanax pills
- Drug paraphernalia
- A loaded Parker Brothers 12 gage sawed-off shotgun
- A loaded Springfield 9mm handgun with a high capacity magazine containing 16 rounds
- Additional ammunition
- A ballistic vest
The estimated street value of the marijuana seized is $1200.The Xanax has a Street Value of $250.
The Psilocybin mushrooms have a street value of $800 and the street value of the Hashish is $3000.
Also located in the residence at the time of the search warrant were six puppies.
Due to the deplorable and inhabitable living conditions of the residence, the Plainfield Humane Society responded and took possession of the puppies in order to rescue them.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that defendants Sherwin S. Newland, Jamal Honorat, and the third defendant were all charged with possession of a 9mm Springfield handgun while committing a CDS offense, Possession of Hashish with intent to distribute, Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms with intent to distribute, Possession of a 12 gage sawed-off Parker Brothers Shotgun, Possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a school zone, Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Possession of a high capacity magazine and Possession of CDS paraphernalia. Defendants Sherwin S. Newland and Jamal Honorat, were lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
