SUEZ is prepared for snow and heavy winds which arrived in New Jersey earlier today and is expected to last through Tuesday. The company is also reminding customers to check their own personal emergency preparedness plans.
“Our teams across New Jersey are prepared to deploy in case of any emergency event,” Jason O’Brien, Northeast Vice President and General Manager, SUEZ Environmental Services, said. “We assure customers that, as always, SUEZ will continue to provide uninterrupted service and will respond immediately to any urgent matters throughout this winter storm.”
Company officials are working closely with local emergency response teams to coordinate preparation and response activities.
SUEZ has assessed its backup generators, has extra drinking water treatment supplies on hand and is taking steps to protect the integrity of its facilities and water supplies.
Customers are reminded to check personal emergency preparedness plans and make sure they have ample emergency supplies, such as flashlights, batteries and food. SUEZ encourages customers to store extra tap water in food-grade storage containers.
Before containers are filled with drinking water, they should be cleaned thoroughly with soap and water, then rinsed with clean water and sealed with original tops. Place a “drinking water” label on the containers and include a storage date.
Be careful not to store containers in direct sunlight or in areas near toxic substances such as gasoline or chemicals. Additional emergency preparedness tips are available at ready.gov.
The company also asks residents to help ensure that fire hydrants near their property are kept clear of snow. Clearing a three-foot space around the hydrant can help safeguard neighborhood safety.
“Clearing snow away from fire hydrants is an essential part of maintaining fire safety in your neighborhood,” O’Brien said. “This will enable your local fire departments to have quick access to water in the event of an emergency.”
