Police in Prospect Park have announced the arrest of Jerrell Wright, 20, of Riverdale for drug possession.
According to police, on Sunday, January 24, at approximately 11:41 a.m. Officer Greg Williams conducted a motor vehicle stop on Hopper Street and Belle Avenue of a 2019 Nissan Altima for failing to stop at a stop sign.
According to police, upon approaching the vehicle, the driver who was later identified as Wright opened the driver’s side door and attempted to exit the vehicle. Mr. Wright complied with Officer William when he ordered Wright to stop, at which time Officer William conducted a search of the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, Officer Williams discovered Mr. Wright to be in possession of seven hundred and fifty suspected heroin envelopes and one bag of suspected marijuana.
Mr. Wright was then placed under arrest and charged with the following:
- One count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance
- One count of possession of marijuana under fifty grams
- One count of possession of controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute
“I would like to commend Officer Williams for his diligent police work which led to the prevention of these narcotics from being distributed on our streets," Mayor Khairullah said. "It will remain a continued priority and commitment of our police department and administration to bring the very best to preserve and protect the highest quality of life for our residents and borough community at large.”
