Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested and charged Emmanuel Gonzalez, age 33, of West New York, with second-degree aggravated assault after his mother was found unresponsive in their residence at 439 66th Street on Thursday afternoon.
According to officials, Gonzalez was detained at the scene and has been charged with Aggravated Assault.
According to police, on Thursday, January 14, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the West New York Police Department responded to 439 66th Street, apartment #2 on a report of an unresponsive 62- year old female.
Upon arrival, officers were met by Emmanuel Gonzalez, who is the son of the victim. Officers were directed to a bedroom where the female, later identified as Irma L. Pons Gonzalez, was found unresponsive. Ms. Pons-Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at 1:46 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
