Police Charge New Brunswick Man with Shooting

​Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of theNew Brunswick Police Department announced that a New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that took place in the area of Phelps Avenue in New Brunswick.

Today, Giovanni Hoyos-Jaimes, 19, of New Brunswick was arrested and charged with first-degree Attempted Murder, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, second-degree Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Aggravated Assault, first-degree Armed Robbery, and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery.  A female juvenile was also arrested along with Hoyos-Jaimes and charged with Tampering with Evidence and Obstruction.  

On December 28, 2020, at approximately 11:37 a.m., New Brunswick police officers responded to the area of the Tov Manor Apartments in response to a non-fatal shooting.  Upon their arrival, authorities found a male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.  The victim was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital.  Investigators later determined Hoyos-Jaimes was the shooter.  

 Hoyos-Jaimes is lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing in Superior Court.
