The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene investigating the death of a person inside a luxury condominium building in Maplewood at this time.
Details regarding the incident are limited but according to preliminary reports, police were called to The Top Condominium building located at 616 South Orange Avenue to investigate reports of a person inside the building.
Upon arrival, Maplewood police immediately contacted the prosecutor's office when they found the unidentified person with injuries consistent with being murdered.
Essex County Prosecutor's Office Spokeswoman Katherine Carter told RLS Media that their office is looking into the cause of death of the person but could not immediately confirm the person's injury type this early in the investigation.
Sources said the a man fatally shot his mother then fled the scene with a rifle in his hand.
There have currently been no arrests reported.
According to the building website, The Top Condos Maplewood is a luxury, exclusive high-rise building located at the top of South Mountain Reservation.
This marks the first homicide in Maplewood of the year.
The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.
