Irvington Township officials are looking into the cause of a house collapse that occurred this afternoon.
Officials said that around 3:46 p.m., Irvington Firefighters responded to a report of a building collapse at 73 Welland Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews found a two and a half story residential home with the first floor collapsed into the basement.
According to officials, there was a single worker on the scene who was running a backhoe and was uninjured. The building was under extensive rehab and therefore unoccupied.
First arriving units conducted a primary search of the area and the premises where they confirmed no one was trapped or injured, according to officials.
PSE&G secured gas and electricity to the structure and the scene was placed under control at 5:03 p.m., officials said.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation and thus far undetermined.
