A 3-alarm fire that broke out in a home in the 100 block of Hollywood Ave. at around 7:30 p.m., sent dozens of firefighters to the scene where a family of about 7 was rescued from the burning building and displaced.
Firefighters rushed to 116 Hollywood Ave. where heavy fire was quickly spreading to the second floor to the third floor of the home. Firefighters reportedly discovered an adult suffering severe burns near the front door upon entry.
As firefighters made entry and began to attack the fire, they found five children, and two other adults trapped inside the house. It took about 40 firefighters from, several municipalities hours to bring the blaze under control. The injured children were transported to a an area hospital for observation. The adult victim was taken to St. Barnabas in Livingston for burns. The ages of the children have not been released. Frigid weather and slippery conditions hampered firefighters efforts to extinguished the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
