Police officials in Newark said the department’s police helicopter assisted in the arrest yesterday of four Newark juveniles who were in a stolen Lexus that was driving erratically through city streets.
The juvenile suspects were arrested after the stolen Lexus in which they were riding was spotted by NPD1, the department’s police helicopter.
The vehicle, reported stolen at 8:30 p.m. from Sayre Street on December 28, 2020, was traveling carelessly on Bergen Street near Avon Avenue.
NPD1 notified officers on the ground about the vehicle’s direction. When the vehicle stopped at Avon and Seymour avenues, the juveniles got out and ran until officers arrested them.
The juveniles – two, 15-year-old males; a 16-year-old male; and a 16-year-old female – were charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest by flight.
Officers responding to reports of suspects from the stolen car incident, came across Mr. Dequan N. Thomas, 25, of Newark at 9:21 p.m. on Treacy Avenue.
Thomas, who was not involved with the stolen car incident, was arrested for unlawful possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
