Injuries Reported After Car Explodes in Newark's South Ward

Newark Fire officials are investigating a car fire that caused the vehicle to explode in a Newark South Ward community during the overnight hours. 

According to a preliminary investigation, firefighters rushed to the 200 block of Johnson Avenue to investigate reports of an explosion.  

Upon arrival, firefighters found an injured victim who was reportedly inside the vehicle with a leaking propane tank when the exposed gas exploded. 

Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital in an unconfirmed condition.

Arson investigators arrived at the scene to take over the investigation.
