There is an active crime scene established and an investigation underway into an armored car attempted armed robbery in Newark's West Ward.
According to a preliminary investigation, police were called to the vicinity of South Orange and Stuyvesant avenues to investigate reports of a crashed armored truck around 1:25 p.m.
According to Newark Police officials, a male suspect entered an armored car at Wells Fargo, 990 South Orange Avenue. and attempted a robbery. The vehicle proceeded forward then struck two parked cars. The suspect fled on foot and remain at-large.
Newark Police said one armored car guard suffered a minor injury to his right hand.
According to police, no cash was stolen from the armored vehicle.
This incident is under investigation.
