Man Arrested for October Shooting in Paterson

Passaic County authorities announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Terrance Byrd, 18, was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place October 24, in the area of Main Street and Hemlock Street.

Police say Terrance Byrd is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree.

In addition, Mr. Byrd is charged with Possession of CDS, Third Degree (2 Counts); Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Third Degree (2 Counts); and Possession CDS with the Intent to Distribute while within a 1000 feet of school property, Third Degree (2 Counts).

These charges are in relation to his arrest on November 23rd police said.

According to police, on October 24th at approximately 1:58 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of Main Street and Hemlock Street on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival members of the Paterson Police Department located evidence of a crime scene but were unable to locate a victim.

A short time later members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 22-year-old male Paterson resident arrived at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson seeking treatment of a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Based on the investigation police say Byrd was identified as the shooter.

An arrest warrant was issued and an arrest was made at approximately 5:28 p.m. in the area of North Main Street and Arch streets.

The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
