The Irvington police captain, Monique Smith, turned herself in early this morning after she allegedly tried to run over a city councilman with her car.
According to sources, a confrontation ensued between South Ward Councilman John Sharpe James and Monique Smith just hours after Smith was promoted to captain Monday afternoon at the Irvington Town Hall.

According to Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss, no details were immediately available since information is still being gathered.
Smith would be suspended without pay pending an investigation.
