There is a crime scene established and an investigation underway for a shooting that occurred in a section of Newark’s Central Ward at this time.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of West Kinney and Halsey streets around 7:50 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers found a male struck by bullets.
While EMS prepared the victim for transport to the hospital, officials at University Hospital notified police that a male gunshot victim entered the emergency department.
Authorities believe the walk-in gunshot victim was shot at the West Kinney Street crime scene.
Police have a portion of Washington Street taped off for the investigation. The condition of the victims could not immediately be confirmed.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
