The Essex County Prosecutors office has announced that a suspect has been charged in connection with Monday's [**incident in Bloomfield that had police fire their weapons**](https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/update-bloomfield-police-fire-shots-suspect-who-attempted-run-them-over-car).
The Prosecutors office has charged Mr. Jeffery Sutton, 37, with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Eluding the Police.
According to officials, at 1:46 p.m., Bloomfield police were alerted that a wanted vehicle from East Orange was traveling west on Bloomfield Avenue from Ampere Parkway.
According to police, when the vehicle was stopped in traffic, officers approached the vehicle and asked Sutton to exit the vehicle.
Police reported that he then accelerated the vehicle, hitting a civilian car than a police car, in an attempt to get away.
According to reports, an officer then fired his weapon five times at the vehicle as it was trying to flee the scene.
The prosecutor's office reports that Sutton was struck with one of the bullets.
The vehicle was later found in Orange and Sutton was apprehended is currently in police custody at University Hospital.
