Police in Newark seeks the public’s assistance with identifying an individual wanted for questioning in a carjacking that occurred on Saturday, October 24th.
Police said in a statement the carjacking occurred in the area of 17th Avenue and S. 17th Street.
According to police, the first suspect lured the victim to the area and pointed a handgun at the victim upon entering his vehicle.
Police say the other suspect approached the driver’s side and removed the victim from the vehicle and both suspects drove away from the area in the victim’s vehicle.
The first suspect (known as Jamaal M) is described as a male with a medium brown complexion and a medium build, dark hair with short box braids, approximately 5’8” to 5’9” tall, weighing around 200 to 210 pounds, wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood, dark pants and tan footwear.
According to police, the second suspect is described as a male with a medium brown complexion and a slim build, approximately 5’8” to 5’9” tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, wearing a gray sweatshirt with a hood with a logo on the front, black jogger pants with white stripes on the side, and black sneakers with a white reflector on the shoelace area.
Detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in quickly identifying these suspects as part of this investigation. Director Ambrose urges anyone with information about these suspects to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1- 877-695-8477).
