Newark Police officials are reporting the arrest of Mr. Najee Carney, 19, Mr. Christian Carnegie, 19, Mr. Al-Tamir Mayweathers, 18, and a 15-year old male, all of Newark, for two robberies using online shopping to lure victims that occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2020 and Tuesda September 29, 2020z
“The public is strongly cautioned against conducting Internet shopping with unknown people and in unknown locations,” Director Ambrose said.
“Don’t become a victim. If you choose to sell a product to an unknown person you’ve met online, arrange to meet the person at one of our seven police precincts. Your safety is what matters most.”
In two separate incidents, both occurring in the area of Lincoln and Mercer streets, the victims agreed with an alleged buyer though an online shopping website to purchase the victims’ dirt bikes.
Upon arrival, the victims were robbed at gunpoint for their dirt bikes.
In a joint operation of the Newark Police Division’s Robbery Section, Criminal Intelligence Unit, and the 1st Precinct Crime Prevention Team, the three adult suspects and the juvenile were apprehended yesterday.
Each suspect faces charges of receiving stolen property for being found in possession of one of the victim’s stolen dirt bike.
Upon his arrest police said, Najee Carney was found in possession of 114 glassine envelopes of CDS heroin, one prescription bottle of Promethazine and $213.22.
He faces additional charges of CDS possession, CDS distribution, CDS distribution within 500-ft. of a public housing complex, CDS distribution within 1,000-ft. of a school, possession of prescription legend drugs and resisting arrest.
Christian Carnegie was found in possession of 229 glassine envelopes of CDS heroin, one plastic sandwich bag of marijuana and $170.01.
He faces additional charges of CDS possession, CDS distribution, CDS distribution within 500-ft. of a public housing complex, CDS distribution within 1,000-ft. of a school and resisting arrest.
